I was approached by a person on Yahoo Messenger the other day to take a job with them. This person Hiring Officer Jessica Wills, presented themselves as a person employed by United Healthcare in Plano Texas.
I have not applied for any position at United Healthcare.
My actions to date regarding the validation of the offer/plus action of getting Police involved:
I have contacted the personnel department and they mentioned that some one is using their company name in fraud. They wanted me to send my information to the Attorney General of the state of Texas.
I have contacted my local police department and they referred me to a fraud packet for personal identity theft. The officer said that I would have a rough route to go to turn this information over to the State Attorney. My next option was to write this entry in a on line web blog.
I see the officer's point. There is very little information that I truly have.
This person originally contacted me on October 22 via Yahoo Messenger. Asked me the associated interview questions mentioned on the GlassDoor website. This web site can help a person that is looking for a job - by finding out possible interview questions. The only information that the scammer has is my physical address which could be found on the Internet anyway. They did ask for a bank account number, which I told them I was in the process of opening up a new account and didn't have the number yet. I just mentioned that my wife and I are not happy with our existing bank. Plus there was no phone interview.
Also there is no information on the profile of the chat account. So I have no way of knowing where/who is really on the other side of the chat.
They want me to take a check and purchase software for a laptop that is supposedly coming to my home for a work at home job.
My rate of pay is $18 per hour while I am in training. After the work starts my pay rate is going to be escalated to $25.50 per hour.
The Fraudster gave me a UPS tracking number of J454605572. The package was from Louisville, KY. The package is being held by UPS for return to the sender. The Fraudster still thinks I will get the package later today. I did call UPS and ask about the package. That's how I found out about the status.
Later this afternoon I will let the Fraudster know that I did not get the package. If I do get a package I will take it to the police.
The concept of praying on unemployed people is really bad. The more desperate a person is to find work they will fall for these scams. In other future posts I will update the situation as needed. If this falls apart today this will be my only post on this topic.
